1. Samtavisi Marani Chinuri White 2022, Kartli, Georgia
Mamuka Kikvadze is a talented artist and skilled winemaker, farming vineyards in the small village of Samtavisi. Using the local Chinuri grape he takes a more unconventional approach and instead of a long maceration on the skins we have a pure vibrant white direct pressed into the traditional clay pots (Qvevris). Lime zest, yuzu hints and fresh herbs come to mind. The wine is zingy and refreshing with textured mineral drive.
2. Wein Goutte Silvaner Everyone is Thirsty and Annoyed 2021, Franken, Germany
A textural and mineral Silvaner from dynamic duo Emily and Christoph that re-located to work in an organic farm in Kitzingen, Franken. Their Silvaner is bursting with notes of spiced pear, white pepper and herbaceous hints. The palate is textural and round lifted by mouthwatering acidity.
3. Geschickt Riesling Wineck Schlossberg Grand Cru 2020, Alsace, France
This Riesling is sourced from a famous and highest Grand Cru in Alsace. Geschickt is a stunning familial estate. Farming is strictly biodynamically and ploughing is done by horse. The freshness and quality of the fruit mixed with 30 days of skin contact create a wonderfully refined orange wine with delicate dried stone fruit notes, hints of hay, spiced lemon lending to a round velvety texture.
4. Obora Chénas En Papolet 2021, Beaujolais, France
The talented couple Hugo and Angela have worked with some of the best producers in Jura and Burgundy. They have turned their attention to Beaujolais for their new project Obora, a region with immense potential for complex rewarding wines. The En Papolet vineyard in the Chénas cru is packed with prized pink granite soils. The 2021 is packed with crunchy black cherry fruit, rose petal tones and grapefruit hints. Delicate, yet layered and full of flavour.
5. Valdisole Panta Rhei 2019, Piedmont, Italy
Giuseppe and Kyriaki run a picturesque estate in Piedmont creating some very unique new wave wines. They like to use local grapes and also some more rare forgotten varieties. Kyriaki is originally from Greece and the wine takes it's name from an old Greek saying from philosopher Heraclitus: 'Panta Rhei', literally translating to "everything flows", hence, everything changes. Panta Rhei is produced from different grapes every year with a revolutionary vinification. In 2019 it was Malvasia di Schirano grapes. A lighter interpretation of the grape here creates an aromatic sweetly scented red with dried strawberry fruit tones, wet earth aromas, bruised blueberry, rooibos tea and dried herbs.
6. Bitoque Negra Criolla 2019, Camargo, Bolívia
A very unique style made with local grape Negra Criolla, also known in Chile by País. This was brought to the region by the Spaniards in the times of the colonies and has developed in the beautiful terroirs of the country for centuries. Now we are able to find some amazingly old vines and Alejandro Medina and his father have decided to roam the region to look for these heirloom vineyards. The vines produce very little and all the fruit needs to be harvested by hand as the vines climb up the local peppercorn trees like wild vines used to do. Their Negra Criolla is elegant with aromas of dried blueberry, earthy raspberry fruit, beetroot, scrubbed herbs and dried eucalyptus needles. Unlike anything you have tried before!
